Did you come to stay overnight?

Hotel Hardegarijp-Leeuwarden is one of the smallest Van der Valk hotels and was the tenth hotel for the Van der Valk family. On March 25, 1959, Hotel-Restaurant Hardegarijp was opened, but the story of this property started as early as November 29, 1838. At that time, Pieter Jans Wadman and his wife Antje Ybeles Huizinga bought some pieces of land here and a year later built a large inn. Due to its location on the main road between Leeuwarden and Groningen, this quickly became a popular hospitality establishment.

DIFFERENT NAMES

In the decades that followed, the inn changed owners and names several times. It is known that in 1893, the hotel was named Hotel Bosma after the operator Hendrik Bosma. In 1921, Joost Braam became the new owner and had Hotel Braam v/h Bosma painted in large letters on the roof. During this time, the hotel was renovated on the west side. Unfortunately, during Christmas in 1926, the newly built barn burned down completely. Subsequently, a new south facade was built with the new name Hotel Braam displayed on it. During those years, the hotel also had a "modern playground with attractions and gymnastic equipment," as stated on a poster from 1934. With a large high slide and carousel, the restaurant was also popular among families from the neighborhood. In the early fifties, the hotel served as a reception center for repatriates from the Dutch East Indies. The hotel also served as a kind of community center. Local associations held their meetings and annual performances there.

NICE HOME BASE

In 1957, the hotel was sold to Adrianus van der Valk from Voorschoten and was named Hotel Hardegarijp. The management was successively in the hands of Martien van der Valk (second generation), Rob and Bernadette van der Valk, Kees van der Valk, Til and Giovanni Ponticorvo (all third generation), and since 2022 Barbara and Remmert Zandstra (fourth generation). The building has been renovated and modernized many times over the past decades. As of 2025, Hotel Hardegarijp-Leeuwarden offers 32 comfortable hotel rooms, a cozy restaurant, and two versatile halls. Located in a small Frisian village in a beautiful green environment, it is a great base to explore the nature and cities in the area.
