Van der Valk Hotel Volendam

Nestled in authentically Dutch nature, just 20 minutes from Amsterdam and on the edge of Volendam, you will find the renovated Van der Valk Hotel Volendam. A welcoming place where you immediately feel at home whether you come for a romantic weekend away, a family holiday with the children, or a business trip. Together you will discover the story of the region in the various names found throughout the hotel. In the lobby your journey through the story begins with coffee and a pastry at Café & Patisserie Zoetwaeter. A nod to the beginning of the story. For there, where the IJsselmeer now lies, small freshwater lakes existed until the 11th century.

Taste the new & familiar: Restaurant ZYLT

Around the 15th century the surrounding villages were founded on the then Zuyderzee. This salinized inland sea was created by storm surges from the North Sea that flooded the freshwater lakes. A new era of brackish water began — a little salty and a little sweet. So, if you walk a little further into the hotel, you'll arrive at restaurant ZYLT. Enjoy an extensive breakfast, lunch and dinner with something for everyone. Our classic dishes — with a modern twist — are, of course, served with our welcoming service. There is also a special wine cabinet, a children's corner and private dining rooms. As the cherry on the applesauce, when the weather is nice you can take a seat on the spacious sun terrace.

Relax in a deluxe room.

Whether you're returning from a day full of adventures in the area or from an inspiring meeting, you'll completely unwind here. As soon as you enter you can feel it: the natural materials, warm colours and soft fabrics give the room a relaxed, homely feel. The furnishings are, once again, a subtle nod to the green polder landscape — but with all the modern conveniences, such as a smart TV.

Discover the vibrant region

In the 20th century the Afsluitdijk created the IJsselmeer as it is today. This change brought tranquility to the water, but also fewer fish. The fishing villages turned into places for living and recreation. With the bus stop around the corner from the hotel you’ll be at Amsterdam Centraal Station within 25 minutes. From there you can easily visit the Dam, shop in the Kalverstraat or head to the atmospheric Nine Streets. Also ideal: by car you’re in Amsterdam North within 15 minutes. A hip and diverse district, known for its industrial charm and creative hotspots. Here you’ll find iconic spots such as the A’DAM Tower and the NDSM site with street art and festivals. Rent a bike, e-bike or e-chopper at the hotel and discover the historic fishing village of Volendam with its picturesque dikes. Stroll through the unique harbour and sample the delicious fish. A fun photo in traditional costume is of course a must! You’ll also find the picturesque Monnickendam, Edam, Hoorn, Zuiderwoud and the IJsselmeer nearby. All are surrounded by beautiful polders and water. So there’s plenty to do!
